Brick and block count Calculator

Estimate masonry units from wall area, openings and joint modules. This free brick and block count calculator shows the calculation and its assumptions so you can compare your own figures.

How the brick and block count calculation works

Unit module area = (length + joint) × (height + joint). Count = net wall area ÷ module area, with waste and rounding up.

Area estimate assumes standard horizontal courses. Corners, bonds, piers, lintels, cuts and reinforcement need a take-off.

Using this calculator

  1. Enter your own figures in the labelled inputs. Keep the currencies, units and time periods consistent.
  2. Choose any applicable rate profile, pattern or assumption shown for this tool. Open additional inputs when relevant.
  3. Review units and material cost, then read the stated assumptions and eligibility conditions before using the result.
